Hersheypark fireworks fire didn't result from a malfunction, company says

The fire started in a garbage can due to improperly disposing of fireworks.

Fire Rescue Capt. Albert Borroto said crews arrived at 12:30 a.m. and found smoke coming from the home.

Fourth of July fireworks sparked two house fires in New Haven overnight, according to New Haven fire officials.

The Maryland state fire marshal is investigating the fire, which occurred around 10:50 p.m. on July 4. The department has been looking for violations since Saturday and had three two-officer teams working Tuesday night.

A fire at a vacant home in a Las Vegas neighborhood caused $75,000 worth of damage on Monday.

Fire officials said the home sustained extensive damage and might be declared a total loss.

No one was hurt and the fire has since been extinguished.

"Even the simplest things like sparklers that we think are safe for kids can be like 1200 degrees", said Eureka Fire Department's Scott Barthelmass. But a fire that starts in a garage because of fireworks, that may be the issue here. Firefighters also said they know they will be busy well into the morning hours as these fireworks continue. No other injuries were reported.
