Big Bang's Taeyang to release a song for the Pyeongchang Olympics

Do Jong-hwan, South Korean minister of culture, sports and tourism, said he would "push ahead for discussions with the International Olympic Committee and other relevant entities" in the hopes of hosting an "Olympics for peace".

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in said earlier this month that the country is open to co-hosting the World Cup in 2030 with North Korea and other Asian countries.

In South Korea, however, NBC would not be inviting guests to the Games and would instead be hosting them in the USA ski town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Zenkel said.

South Korean Culture Minister Do Jong-hwan said on Tuesday that he will discuss with the International Olympic Committee to push for the fielding of a unified women's ice hockey team at the Pyeongchang Games.

The Paralympic Games take place March 9 to March 18.

The proposal could receive criticism from the United States, which is reeling from the death of Otto Warmbier, a University of Virginia student who was arrested by North Korea in 2015 for allegedly stealing a propaganda sign during his trip to the country.

Majority of Koreans are positive that the PyeongChang Olympics will be successful.

The Olympic rings outside the Gangneung Hockey Centre in Gangneung, South Korea.

A liberal candidate from the Democratic Party, Moon has pledged greater dialogue with North Korea in a bid to reduce tensions.

Next year's Olympics are scheduled to begin in February in Pyeongchang, a South Korean town not far from the demilitarized zone that buffers the two Koreas, which are still officially at war.

Currently, North Korea have not qualified any athletes for the Games, with pairs figure skating representing their only hope.

This year, the two countries joined together for a women's soccer's game in Pyongyang and a women's hockey tournament in South Korea.

The two nations played in an International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship Division II Group A competition in April at Olympic venue Gangneung, where the South Koreans overcame the North 3-0.
