E3 2017: Metroid: Samus Returns announced for 3DS; Gameplay revealed

Nintendo today made our dreams come true: a new Metroid game is in development!

Assuaging many fans' speculative anxiety, Nintendo dropped a big shell when it announced that Metroid 4, the long-gestating next entry in the fan-favorite Metroid series, was in development. This intense, side-scrolling action platformer is a great entry point into the Metroid franchise and ideal for returning fans as well, and it's available only on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

Metroid: Samus Returns will release for the 3DS on September 15th. If music isn't one's beat, then the pair of Samus Returns amiibo should make for nice bonuses to grab alongside the game as well. What are your thoughts on Metroid: Samus Returns? And Nintendo did not show any games at this E3 so far from Retro. If we're being honest, knowing Metroid Prime 4 is happening is good enough. The last Metroid game to release before that was Metroid: Other M on Wii, which was a platformer that also didn't get the most positive of responses from fans.

For now, fans will have to wait for more details about the upcoming Metroid Prime 4.

It's a sign of Nintendo's remarkable resurgence since the Switch launched that the company can whip up so much excitement by revealing so little. We don't even know who's developing it. Will you be picking up a Switch console if you havent already?

We saw an extended story trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the Nintendo Switch, which ended with a narrower release date: Holiday 2017.
