Library builds a better future with Summer Reading Program

The goal for this year's Summer Reading Program is to encourage children to read or listen to books during the summer so they can maintain and improve good reading skills.

For its 17th annual edition, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's biggest event of the year invites bookworms of all ages to enjoy a free festival packed with imaginative crafts, games, storytelling, food trucks, music, and more.

"We're committed to encouraging young people to love reading", Morris said. At registration, participants will receive the program guidelines, a reading log and a schedule of events.

MIDLAND Midland County Public Libraries have scheduled the 2017 Summer Reading Program through July 28 at the Centennial Library, 2503 W. Loop 250 N., Midland; and the Downtown Library, 301 W. Missouri Ave., Midland.

The Adult Summer Reading Challenge allows adults to enter to win one of eight weekly prizes every time they read a book or attend an adult program.

All summer reading programs will come to a close during the Family Summer Reading Finale 11 a.m. -1 p.m. August 8 at Thelma Spencer Park in Rochester Hills.

Drop-in toddler and preschool story times will be held from 11-11:30 Wednesdays, and no registration is required.

Kids age 11 and under who register for their Beanstack accounts through the BCLS website and track their progress will earn virtual badges for reaching each reading milestone.
