Virat Kohli Charity Ball: Vijay Mallya & Team India in Attendance

Mallya, who is the former owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise RCB, is an avid fan of Kohli and is known to maintain a good relationship with the cricketer.

Vijay Mallya's presence at the stands during the Indian cricket team vs Pakistan cricket team ICCChampions Trophy match on Sunday, created quite a furore in the media and social media alike.

Mallya was also reported to be present at the charity ball organised by India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli. But normally what happens at the charity dinner is that someone who has bought a table is entitled to invite his guests.

Why not? It was a function directly connected to Virat Kohli and security could have easily requested Mallya to recuse himself since his presence was a hindrance. "Similarly, someone who bought a table must have invited him".

Kohli's charity is set up to help victims and survivors of modern slavery aiming to provide a safe shelter, rehabilitate, guide, and aid with vital medical care, vocational training and schooling for the survivors of human trafficking rescued in India.

"His presence creates a very uncomfortable situation for the cricketers", said a source.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan graced the event with their wives Ritika Sajdeh and Ayesha Mukherjee respectively.

In the tweet, Mallya also took on the Indian media for "sensational" coverage. However, that did not prevent the liquor magnate from enjoying the event from the VIP section of the Edgbaston stadium along with a pitch pass.

At the moment, Vijay is out on bail and, after his arrest for three hours, is still technically on the Interpol/Scotland Yard list and the subject of an extradition attempt by the Indian government.
