AMD's new Radeon Pro 500 lives in the new Macs

Apple showed off how powerful the new iMac hardware is via a fancy VR demonstration - showcasing the "native VR support" in High Sierra - that was pretty impressive, though it's obviously hard to get a feel for how it would perform in person without going hands-on.

Graphics will be provided by a Radeon Vega with up to 16GB of VRAM memory that can power multiple 4K displays, or up to 44 million pixels at any given time, if you can find a screen that large.

The iMac is getting an upgrade.

In a new "Kickass Space Grey" colour, Apple gave us a sneak peek at the iMac Pro, to fit more powerful hardware into a slim chassis, Apple engineers rethought the thermals on the device, with a new dual-fan cooling solution that keeps components up to 80 percent cooler than the old one.

Perhaps unexpectedly, the next most exciting unit on display was the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro, running iOS 11.

Overall, Apple has included three new models to the main product line; an iMac 21.5-inch, a 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display, and a 27-inch iMac Retina with 5K display. Apple has now improved the brightness to 500 nits, making them 43 per cent brighter than previous generation.

AMD Radeon Pro 500 offers a level of power operating efficiency that lets them maintain full performance in the confines of today's all-in-one devices like the new Apple iMacs. The company has added two USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports to all models.

The new iMac's will also get the High Sierra update this fall. The MacBook too has received Kaby Lake processors, 50 percent faster SSDs, and the same keyboard that shipped in the MacBook Pros previous year. Thus, it is looking to provide you with the option to start off with an eight-core Xeon processor, with configuration available up to 18-core Xeon chips. The 21.5-inch Retina iMac with the newer display and updated innards now starts at Rs. 1,07,900, compared to Rs. 1,23,900 for the earlier starting price of the Retina iMac range.

Apple also sells an "affordable" 15-inch MacBook Pro, which is based on specifications from a model that sold in 2015 and is available only in silver.

At the back of the room was a single iMac Pro to look at, but not to touch. Starting at $4 999, it's the most expensive and powerful computer Apple has made.
