London authorities were investigating reports that a vehicle had hit pedestrians on London Bridge. Armed police came in.

The man with the knife stabbed a waitress, who was hiding behind a partition, in the neck and stabbed a man in the back before running out of the restaurant. "I thought someone had collapsed", he told Sky News.

The force initially said officers were also responding to a reported third incident, in the Vauxhall area of London.

United Kingdom television showed police leading dozens of people down city streets with their hands on their heads.

She told the BBC that a man was driving the van, which was "probably traveling at about 50 miles an hour" when it apparently began mowing down pedestrians. The van reportedly hit several people, and the witness said he then saw several bodies on the ground that were not moving.

"Then people from the ground floor were moved downstairs to the basement, and then we heard gunfire outside and some people saw armed police patrolling the area around the restaurant". A witness told the BBC a van veered off the road and hit several people...

I'd say there are about four severely injured people.

"I thought at first it was fireworks, then I recognised it was significant gunfire". Nearby underground stations London Bridge and Borough stations were immediately shut.

A Downing Street spokesman said: "The Prime Minister is in contact with officials and is being regularly updated on the incident at London Bridge".
