Daniel Summerhays three shots clear entering final round of Memorial Tournament

To steady himself Sunday, Summerhays will rely on a pair of major performances from last summer, his tie for eighth at the U.S. Open and his solo third at the PGA Championship. His first bogey didn't come until the par-4 13th, but he made two more birdies on his way to the clubhouse to get to 13-under for the tournament.

Fellow American Daniel Summerhays (69) bogeyed the last but still finished the day in second place on nine-under, with compatriot Rickie Fowler (66) another shot behind.

That is ten shots behind leader Jason Dufner who incredibly shot back to back rounds of seven under par 65 to lead the rest of the high quality field by five shots. Kuchar's round was bogey-free until the hard par-3 16th, but he was able to erase it on the 17th hole with a 155-yard approach to eight feet that led to a birdie.

Dufner dropped down to a three-way tie for third after a poor round of 77 which six bogeys and a double bogey on the 11th hole, which undid the good work of birdies on the seventh, 15th and 17th.

"I'll have to play some great golf but I'm driving the ball the best I ever have and there's still a lot of play to unfold", said Leishman. Spieth and Justin Thomas (71) were tied for fourth and eight shots behind.

Lingmerth had no such problems: "I caught some breaks when I missed the fairway and still had some fairly good opportunities from the rough", he told golf Channel.

"I managed to still get some decent lies out of the ones that missed the fairway", Lingmerth said. "He had two fantastic days".

He plundered an eagle and eight birdies but also had three bogeys, while Dufner was flawless until the par-four 18th, where he missed the green with his approach shot for the first time all day, leading to a closing bogey.

"The tournament is not over", Dufner said.

It was a tough day, too, for former world number one Jason Day, who had six bogeys and three birdies in a three-over 75.

The four-time victor on the PGA Tour threatened to run away with the tournament after breaking the event's 36-hole record at Muirfield Village on Friday but he faded dramatically, holing six bogeys and a double-bogey.

"I made some nice pars and rolled in some putts", he added, although the highlight of his day didn't involve putting. Spieth started the back nine with two straight birdies only to follow with two straight bogeys.

The Swede shares the lead with Dufner, who was far more consistent and made just one bogey.

"I'd like to be closer", he said.

Johnson was the biggest name to miss the cut, joined by rising Spanish talent Jon Rahm, who bowed out early for just the second time since turning pro previous year. He wound up finishing one back of Kevin Kisner, and Spieth brought his form to Ohio.
