Trump White House Reportedly Proceeding To Reverse Obama-Era Punishment of Russian Federation

Washington D.C. [U.S.A], June 1: U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is mulling to hand back two diplomatic compounds near NY and Maryland's Eastern Shore to Russian Federation.

Senior Tillerson adviser R.C. Hammond told the Post that "U.S. and Russian Federation have reached no agreements", but Moscow is talking like it's a done deal.

Officials would likely give back the estates with strings attached, including revoking the diplomatic protections previously attached to the buildings, The Washington Post reported. The Post reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told top Russian diplomats last month that the return of the compounds no longer hinged on completing the consulate.

"[Former] President Obama closed those two compounds because of Russia's attacks on our democracy", he said in a statement.

The Trump administration is working towards undoing Obama's punishment and handing the compounds back to Russian Federation, possibly as part of some sort of exchange.

Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov told Sputnik on Wednesday that Russia is "taking into account the hard internal political situation for the current [U.S.] administration" but is willing to reciprocate for what he called the "expropriation" of Russian property "if these steps are not somehow adjusted by the USA side", in reference to the current terms of an agreement to return ownership.

According to the Post, the Trump administration is considering putting restrictions on the properties if they are handed over, including removing diplomatic immunity, which would allow USA law enforcement to enter the properties. "Washington Post is among them", Ryabkov said. Russian officials repeatedly asserted during meetings with USA diplomats that Obama's action was illegal. He also expelled 35 Russian "intelligence operatives."

Then-Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin at the time shamed the US for emptying the compound out during the holiday season. "Before we get official information from the U.S. Administration or its representatives, we don't perceive the issue as a reason for whatever actions on our part".

Kislyak, who met with multiple other members of the Trump campaign, is set to leave his post as Russian ambassador in Washington, which he assumed in 2008.
