Si Woo Kim FedExCup standings update

Si Woo Kim's victory at The Players Championship on Sunday burnished the South Korean's reputation as one of the best young talents on the PGA Tour but the 21-year-old knows his career will soon have to take a back seat to defending his country.

Kim Si-woo finished on a total of 10-under par after completing his final round with a bogey-free 3-under-par 69, which put an insurmountable distance between him and his closest rivals Poulter and South Africa's Lous Oosthuizen, reports Efe.

Kim then parred the treacherous back nine - including the famous par-three 17th hole featuring an island green - to clinch a three-shot victory over Ian Poulter and Louis Oosthuizen.

He became just the fourth player to win two PGA tournaments before the age of 22, a list that also contains names such as Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Sergio Garcia.

This is published unedited from the IANS feed. At the end of the day, he's just like you and me.

It offers exemptions to athletes who win a medal of any colour at the Olympics or gold at the Asian Games but unfortunately for Kim, winning the PGA Tour's flagship event does not bring an exemption.

But the South African ran up a double bogey on the fourth and dropped another shot on the ninth, before following an eagle on the 11th with further bogeys on the 13th and 14th.

"I still can't believe I'm the champion, and I'm the youngest champion", said Kim.

You might think after winning The Players Championship, especially after winning the championship as the youngest player ever, you'd be ready to go big and celebrate.

"Because of that experience", Kim said through his interpreter, "I could be relieved and I could be very stable".

Kim upset a field that included most of the world's top 50 golfers to win the tournament in Florida, often referred to as the "fifth major". Poulter, who just a few weeks ago thought he had lost his PGA Tour card, played the best we've seen of him in months.

Kim, who fashioned three birdies on the front nine and finished his round with nine straight pars, was unflappable on the challenging Stadium Course.

Rafa Cabrera Bello of Spain hit 8-iron that bounded off the side of a bunker and into the cup for an albatross 2 on the par-5 16th.

Kim also said he's been battling back pain since the start of the season.

Now he's here to stay for at least the next five years, and based on his game, probably much longer.
