Jones excited by WC draw

"It doesn't matter who we are drawn against, because to win the Rugby World Cup you have to beat the best teams out there", said Springbok coach Allister Coetzee.

Australia head coach Michael Cheika, England head coach Eddie Jones and South Africa head coach Allister Coetzee attend a news conference after the Rugby World Cup 2019 pool draw.

With Argentina also in the same section along with qualifiers from the Americas and Oceania, it promises to be a challenging pool for all teams involved, with two places for the quarter-finals on offer.

Yet Jones said his back-to-back Six Nations-winning team would be ready to face anyone at the tournament in Japan after years of preparation and planning.

"I'm excited by the draw".

"To win the World Cup you have to win seven games". You've got to beat good teams and we've got two big games against France and Argentina. Ireland are the top seeds in the pool, which will be completed by two qualifiers yet to be decided.

"He tells us that a World Cup is a life-defining moment".

No team has ever lost in the pool stage and gone on to win the trophy outright.

Holders New Zealand were bracketed with South Africa and Italy, while hosts Japan got a kinder draw against Ireland and Scotland.

Hosts Japan will meet Scotland and Ireland in Pool A, alongside a European qualifier and the victor of a play-off featuring teams from Oceania and Europe.

"Strong forward play, they've got some gas out wide and between now and 2019 we'll learn a bit more about them".

Three-time victor New Zealand and South Africa are familiar foes, having already played each other 93 times, with the All Blacks winning 55 of those matches.

"We are happy that we will be in a pool that will provide us with some challenges", Hansen said.

The Brave Blossoms stunned South Africa two years ago in England, however, and will certainly not view reaching the knockout stages on home soil as mission impossible.

The draw took place 2 1/2 years ahead of the Rugby World Cup to allow organizers time to sort out the match schedule and ticketing, confirm venues, and arrange base camps.

Alternatively, if Ireland finish second, they will face the winners of Pool B.

While few tournaments play out exactly as planned - for example England's demise in pool play at the last edition - should the All Blacks top their group, they will likely face Scotland in the quarterfinals.
