India child rape victim in abortion plea

A woman who threatened to go to the police after she was gang-raped was then killed by her attackers who shattered her skull with bricks, the Indian authorities have said.

As per reports, the girl had been abducted by two men in a Santro auto from Sonipat while she was on her way to work.

In a separate case, a 10-year-old was in critical condition in Haryana's Rohtak city after doctors reportedly found she was five months pregnant after her stepfather defiled her.

"There were injuries on the private parts, which means that woman was sexually assaulted", Dhattarwal said adding that the vaginal swab had been sent to a forensic science lab for confirmation regarding rape.

The incident came only a few days after the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of four accused in the December 16 case. Meanwhile, the girl would be getting counselling in order to help her cope with the assault.

The National Commission for Women on Sunday took suo motu cognisance of the brutal gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old woman in Haryana's Rohtak district.

The former state minister squarely blamed the "rift- ridden" BJP government led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for the "utter lawlessness" which has made women and girls feel unsafe and insecure in the state. On May 9, she did not return home. In revenge, the boy along with his friends allegedly raped and murdered her.

He said as the victim belonged to Dalit community, the accused had also been booked under the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to the BBC, the child subsequently revealed she had been raped by her stepfather while her mother was at work and warned against confiding in anyone.

Stray dogs had bitten away the victim's face and lower portion of her body which was spotted by a passer-by.

The victim's mother had previously registered a complaint against one of the accused for pressuring her daughter into marrying him, Mr Shenvi said. The woman's head was smashed with a brick and a vehicle run over her before the body was dumped.

India continues to be a country unsafe for women, as yet another incident of brutal gang rape and murder has been reported in Haryana, bringing shocking flashbacks of a 2012 gang rape incident.
