Jordanian Terrorist Attacks Police at Jerusalem's Lion's Gate on Shabbos

Samri said the officer responded by opening fire and killing his attacker, a 57-year-old man from Jordan who arrived several days earlier on a tourist visa.

A Jordanian man was shot dead after he allegedly stabbed and wounded an Israeli officer in occupied East Jerusalem on Saturday.

"The terrorist rushed toward him, whipped out a knife that he had in his possession, stormed him and began stabbing him".

Police detained the owner of a booth near the scene, for trying to prevent a bystander from helping the policeman who was under attack.

Israel's ambulance service Magen David Adom said the police officer was not severely wounded.

Minister Momani did not mention the stabbing in his statement, saying instead that Al-Kasji's death was a crime, and that Israel is responsible, as the occupying power in Jerusalem.

The Jordanian minister condemned the crime and demanded Israel to reveal all the details about the crime.

And Palestinian media outlets are reporting that in response to the attack, Israeli forces have restricted access to al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, the third holiest site in Islam. Israel has identified a lot of them as attackers.

Israel says the Palestinian leadership is inciting the violence.

The attacks have diminished over time and Israeli police say the most recent attacks have not been ideological by nature and have mostly been carried out by Palestinians plagued by personal or mental health issues.

U.S. President Donald Trump has vowed to try and broker a historic peace deal to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
