Trump poised to nominate slate of federal-court judges

A senior White House official told The New York Times that Trump would be announcing his conservative nominees on a regular basis, with the first round being made this week.

The former University of MI law professor was elected to the bench back in 2015 and has also worked as a law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia.

Trump will also name several additional nominees to the federal appeals court, along with a handful of federal district court nominees.

Thapar had been in the mix for the Supreme Court vacancy, interviewing with Trump by phone before the president selected Gorsuch to fill the seat left vacant by Scalia's death previous year. President Clinton put forth his first group of would-be judges in August 1993.

"President Trump is building on the success of his nomination of Justice Gorsuch with an outstanding new slate of nominees for the lower federal courts", said Carrie Severino, chief counsel of the Judicial Crisis Network.

Larsen's nomination to the federal appeals court would require Senate confirmation. She was a law professor at University of MI at the time.

Dabney Friedrich, a former member of the US Sentencing Commission, for the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

Karen, of MI, and Justice David R. Stars, of Minnesota, are expected to be nominated to a pair of federal circuit court positions.
