Champions League: Cristiano Ronaldo hattrick helps Real Madrid beat Atletico 30

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone refused to accept defeat following the 0-3 Champions League semi-final first leg defeat away to Real Madrid which left his side's chances of reaching a second successive final in tatters.

Cristiano Ronaldo bagged yet another hat-trick against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night to all but guarantee Real Madrid a place in the Champions League final.

He scored his 10th Champions League goal of the season with a low shot from inside the area after a pass by Lucas Vazquez.

"I'm not sure whether we've put in a better performance since I took over".

Ronaldo now has his sights set on another final, having become the first man since Robert Lewandowski in 2012-13 to achieve complete domination of a semi-final clash.

Ronaldo, 32, rewarded a bright Real start by heading home Casemiro's deflected cross after Atleti failed to clear a corner.

"He is unique", Zidane said, per the Daily Mail. We know exactly how we have to play.

Ronaldo, who has been given extra time to rest this season, was awarded with a standing ovation by adoring fans at the Bernabeu. "Ronaldo said, The team was tremendous". However, we haven't won anything yet and we need to be just as on it as we always are.

Next week's match at the Vicente Calderon Stadium leaves Atletico with only a slim chance of avenging the losses to Madrid in the final both in 2016 and in 2014.

Ronaldo has now scored more goals in Champions League knockout games (52) than in group stage fixtures (51), while he now has 103 Champions League goals, which is more than Atleti's total as a club (100).

There were contrasting emotions for Atletico boss Simeone.

"I don't think it's impossible", he said in a post-match interview with Mega.

"Football is a marvellous game and anything can happen".

Atletico, the third force in Spanish soccer behind Madrid and Barcelona, is trying to win its first title and avenge the heartbreaking losses to Madrid in a penalty shootout previous year and after extra time in 2014. Our strength is our patience because we know we have so many players who can make a difference'. "We need to be focused from the first minute until the last and we need the fans to be behind us".
