North Korea accuses US, South Korea of assassination attempt

USA and South Korean agents are plotting to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, state media report, according to BBC News.

The North Korean statement, carried by the official Korean Central News Agency - which often issues shrill, bellicose threats and accusations against the United States and South Korea - said the foreign intelligence agencies "infiltrated" North Korea "to commit state-sponsored terrorism".

In recent months, as tensions intensified on the Korean Peninsula, the North has reacted stridently to news reports out of South Korea that United States and South Korean commando units were training to "decapitate" the North Korean leadership in case of war.

State media claims us and South Korean intelligence agencies were working together with an unidentified terrorist group to carry out an attack, possibly with a biochemical weapon at a military parade.

Though Chinese analysts recognize the dangers posed by the North, they have long seen Chinese influence as limited and believe that USA hostility toward North Korea is the root cause of peninsular tensions, Snyder said.

China on Friday opposed unilateral sanctions on North Korea by Washington, a day after the US House of Representatives approved a law granting more power to the executive to take such a step.

It "may be an opportunity for North Korea to exploit".

"Only the Central Intelligence Agency can produce such substance", it said, adding that South Korea had borne the funding. But longtime North Korea observers say that organized subversion is highly unlikely in the North's police state, where huge numbers of soldiers and security agents are dedicated to the sole task of protecting Kim.

North Korea often uses colourful language and is no stranger to extravagant claims.

With President Trump promising to stop North Korea developing nuclear weapons, these are also tense times, when Pyongyang could have been tempted to hit back at the US. Recent satellite images showed extensive infrastructure being built on artificial islands in the Yellow Sea and analysts suggested that the type and make of numerous buildings likely mean they'll be used for military operations like missile launches.

The report claimed that US officials bribed the North Korean citizen, who it called "human scum", with $750,000 in payments to assassinate Kim using biochemical substances.

"I think the forthcoming election in South Korea indicates that a majority of South Koreans are opposed to Trump, and will probably vote for the Democratic Party, which is opposed to building up the USA military capacity to survey and pinpoint China's vital resources, and China's defense", he stated.

The Pentagon will no longer publicly discuss the missions on a routine basis, but instead once a year will merely publish a list of operations, officials said.

The 1,800-word report did not specify when the alleged assassination plot was stopped.
