Mehbooba invokes Vajpayee, says only Modi can find solution to Kashmir problem

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that PM Narendra Modi is Kashmir's only hope to resolve the dispute once and for all.

Two days after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed security situation of the Valley with him. "The nation will support whatever he decide", a news report quoted Mehbooba as saying.

Last month, Mufti held talks with PM Modi on the issue. "Woh jo faisla karenge, mulk support karega", she said. There were talks with L K Advani (in Kashmir). Aur yehi wajah hai ki woh ek gantey ke andar Pakistan chaley gaye, wahan ke prime minister se mile.

Indirectly referring to ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mehbooba said the former PM also wished to visit Pakistan but did not dare to do so. "Parents should be careful about the future (of their wards)", he said, adding, "We need to see what education these institutions are imparting to our children".

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating a flyover in Gandhi Nagar, Mufti, while referring to the recent turmoil in the state, said, "Mein aaj bhi yeh kehti hoon".

The NC also said that the Chief Minister would do well to remember how late Mufti openly declared that Prime Minister Modi was a "Toofaan Ka Aadmi" and expressed similar "unfounded and unrealistic" optimism in his political will to resolve the Kashmir issue. It started to come out when the youths were out on the streets in 2008 and then 2009 and 2010. "That lava has now spread in the Valley and we are facing it".

About the development work in the state, she said the ongoing strife in Kashmir affects the development of Jammu.

Mehbooba said the situation in Kashmir is not good and blamed the previous Congress-led UPA government in the centre for the prevailing anger and alienation among people in Kashmir.

To a question, the BJP leader said that the National Democratic Alliance government is more success full than the United Progressive Alliance government in tackling the activities of Maoists. She also said that while her government is trying to improve the situation in Kashmir, there are some forces which do not want it.
