BlackBerry KeyOne to launch in United States and Canada in late May

We'll have plenty more impressions to share in our upcoming review of the KeyOne.

The handset's Canadian availability details have also been announced.

The phone will also sell in the USA with TCL gearing up to sell unlocked CDMA and GSM versions. It will be available for preorder starting May 18 from select partners.

On the camera front, the BlackBerry KeyOne uses a 12MP Sony IMX378 rear camera and an 8MP selfie camera.

He also tweeted that production of the KEYone was underway, "but we want to be certain we can meet our customer demands..."

Unfortunately for everyone - including BlackBerry diehards - the KeyOne is a pretty underwhelming device overall. The inclusion of Android on board is great (as has been the case for BlackBerry's smartphones for quite some time now), but, still, that physical keyboard just isn't something I'm looking for these days. This new device, with the iconic physical keyboard, was initially expected to be now for sale but the company delayed the launch until May.

Meanwhile, in Canada, the KEYone will be available from SaskTel, Telus, Rogers, and Bell, and will cost $199 CAD on a two-year contract. If one of those heads belongs to you, then you might be pleased to know that BlackBerry has finally announced a release date for the phone. Each key can be assigned to a different shortcut and a fingerprint scanner is integrated into the space bar. There's no word when BlackBerry plans to bring the KeyOne to India. The battery charges to 50 percent after half an hour of charge.

What makes the KEYone a stand out device in the already flooded smartphone market is the physical keyboard that BlackBerry handsets were once famous for.

What really sets a BlackBerry smartphone apart from any other Android device, are the enhanced security features built into every device, right from the start. It also has a full QWERTY keyboard that doubles as a trackpad for scrolling through long emails or web pages and is powered by the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 635 processor.
