All-New Amazon Fire TV Stick makes its way to the UK

Now, imagine sharing your name with two of the world's most popular voice-activated Assistants, Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri.

Until now, Alexa's domain had been the Echo and Echo Dot smart speakers.

"Not only are we shipping a new Fire TV Stick - a faster and more powerful successor to our fastest-selling United Kingdom device ever -we're also rolling Alexa out to every single Fire TV device in the UK". You'll need to setup your preferences with Amazon to enable local news. The same software update also upgrades previous generation Fire TV and Fire TV Stick devices to the new, cinematic UI.

The move was announced on the same day that Google Home, the tech giant's answer to Amazon Echo, went on sale in the UK.

The update bringing Alexa to existing Fire TV devices will roll out to customers over the coming weeks.

However Fire TV Stick and Fire TV customers will still be able to take advantage of a number of Alexa's capabilities.

Alexa will also be able to read the news to viewers and will be able to carry out chores, such as setting reminders. There are a bunch of different apps available for the device including Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, BBC News and BBC Sport, as well as Prime Video of course.

Amazon has been selling Fire TV devices since way back in 2014, and the rough concept has remained the same ever since.

Inc has made the latest version of its popular TV and media streaming device, the Fire TV Stick, available outside the USA for the first time.

With Alexa integrated into Fire TV, users can easily control video playback through voice.

Fast, accurate voice search powered by Alexa also allows users to search quickly for apps and content across a variety of services.
