Balor has been undergoing a grueling rehab schedule in order to be cleared in time to perform at WrestleMania 33.
The professional wrestler now under WWE's NXT brand turns 37 years old today. He appeared briefly at the NXT television tapings at the University of Central Florida and got physical in the ring for the first time since after undergoing surgery on his shoulder previous year.
The NXT champion Bobby Roode and Andrade "Cien" Almas were beating on Shinsuke Nakamura when the return occurred. This could also give Balor an opportunity to fight Samoa Joe, with whom Balor had his final match in NXT.More news: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Gets Steam & Xbox One Release
It's not likely that Balor is going to wind up back in NXT anytime soon, but one thing is clear: he's still not medically cleared to get back in the ring. He was presumably referring to his former title, the WWE Universal Championship, held now by Kevin Owens.
It's expected that this segment was for the live crowd only. At WrestleMania itself, though, Goldberg will be busy with a match against Brock Lesnar, and Kevin Owens is widely expected to have a match against Chris Jericho. It's not an ideal spot for the first-ever WWE Universal champion, but a realistic possibly if there's nothing for him to do.
And although he has yet to appear on WWE's flagship show this year, his appearance at NXT points towards a possible appearance at this year's WrestleMania in April.
